Meet Yordan Gutierrez
Instructor, Performer, Entertainer Cuban Culture & Dance Educator
Yordan Gutierrez Masa grew in the rich dance culture and community in Havana, Cuba. Following his passion and desire to learn more about Cuban dance, as a teen, he started his first steps in formal instruction at Casa de Cultura in Plaza de la Revolucion.
In later years, he continued his development through courses and workshops at Teatro Nacional de Cuba and Ballet Folklorico Nacional focusing on popular and folkloric dances.
Professionally, Yordan taught dance in Havana at international schools of dance, Via Danza and Salsamiga. Always developing his skills. Yordan is a well-known dancer on the salsa scene in Havana often being invited to share on the stage with top bands.
Here in Toronto, Yordan was excited to get started right away, immersing himself in the dance community and the many opportunities to share his knowledge and passion for Cuban dance.
When he first arrived in Canada he joined and still support the TCRP (Toronto Casino and Rueda Practice) group to help expand the Cuban style and presence in Toronto.
Yordan is actively creating and performing at various events. Partnering with Melissa Noventa he has launched the Sabor y Manana workshops with great success. He participated in the first Salsanama competition in Canada in 2019 at the Toronto Salsa and Bachata Festival - With 1st place in Toronto and 2nd in the Finals.
Yordan has a strong ability to move with ease and fluidity. He alternates and combines complex turn patterns, Cuban, Salsa (Casino), Rumba, Son, Afro-Cuban, and Reggaeton creating exciting styling and high energy performance
