Karen Rodriguez-Chaba is the heart and foundation of Abanico Performance Academy. Known as the “Mamma Bear” of the Abanico family, Karen has created more than just a dance studio—she has built a community rooted in connection, support, and growth.
Alongside her husband Peter, Karen has played an instrumental role in shaping Abanico into what it is today. A true entrepreneur, she wears many hats as a businesswoman while continuing to expand and elevate the academy with vision and purpose.
Karen is also an accomplished performer with experience on stages around the world, bringing her passion for the arts into everything she does. Beyond performance, she is deeply committed to mentoring and guiding students, fostering both personal and artistic development.
Her ability to nurture, inspire, and bring people together is what defines the Abanico family. Karen continues to grow meaningful connections, uplift those around her, and leave a lasting impact on every dancer who walks through the doors.
Arturo
Artisitc Director
Arturo Coye is the Artistic Director of Abanico Performance Academy, an internationally trained performer and choreographer with over a decade of experience on stages around the world. Having trained and performed across Europe and the Americas, Arturo brings a refined, global perspective to his craft.
Known for his discipline, precision, and artistic vision, Arturo is dedicated to developing dancers into true performers. His approach goes beyond technique—he challenges each artist to push past limitations, refine their identity, and step fully into their potential.
At Abanico, Arturo leads with purpose: to elevate standards, inspire growth, and define the artistry within every dancer he trains.
ANTONIO
Instructor
Antonio Alvarez is a world-class performer and Salsa specialist, bringing a dynamic presence and high-level expertise to Abanico Performance Academy. As the lead instructor for Salsa ON2 Level 1 and Level 2, Antonio is known for his precision, musicality, and electrifying style.
A master of his craft, Antonio combines advanced technique with a patient and thoughtful teaching approach. He is deeply committed to building strong foundations—breaking down fundamentals, refining footwork, and preparing students to confidently progress into advanced training.
His classes are both energetic and engaging, driven by his signature footwork and passion for Salsa. When Antonio performs, his presence is undeniable—the room shifts as his artistry, control, and dynamic expression captivate every audience.

ANDREW GRAY

Andrew Gray is a highly skilled Salsa and Bachata instructor at Abanico Performance Academy, known for his depth of knowledge, technical precision, and expressive approach to movement. As an experienced performer trained to advanced levels, Andrew brings both artistry and discipline into every class.
His teaching is rooted in strong fundamentals—focusing on technique, body awareness, and grounding as the foundation for growth. Andrew believes that true mastery begins with understanding the basics at a deeper level, allowing dancers to move with intention, control, and confidence.
With a thoughtful and often poetic approach, Andrew’s passion for dance translates into powerful, transformative learning experiences that guide students to refine their skills and define their artistry.
JULIA DOWNER
Instructor
Julia Downer is a dedicated Salsa instructor at Abanico Performance Academy, specializing in Salsa Level 1 and Level 2. Known for her vibrant energy and strong technical foundation, Julia creates an engaging and supportive learning environment for dancers of all levels.
As both an accomplished performer and instructor, Julia brings real-world experience and artistry into every class. She places a strong emphasis on fundamentals—helping students build proper technique, confidence, and control from the ground up.
Her teaching style is approachable, encouraging, and fun, allowing students to feel comfortable while steadily improving their skills. By the end of each class, dancers leave feeling more confident, accomplished, and excited for what’s next.
When she’s not teaching, Julia is performing on stage, proudly representing the artistry and excellence of Abanico. Her warm, caring nature and passion for dance make her not only an inspiring instructor, but a mentor students truly enjoy learning from.
ADRIANA CHAVEZ

Adri Chavez aka Foxy Alive is a dynamic performer and Heels instructor at Abanico Performance Academy, known for her confidence, precision, and empowering presence. Specializing in the art of Heels, Adri brings a unique blend of strength, sensuality, and technique to every class.
Her choreography is thoughtfully designed to help dancers connect with their bodies, build confidence, and move with intention. Adri creates a space where students can explore their expression while developing control, balance, and fluidity—all while mastering the technical skill of dancing in heels.
Her teaching style is both supportive and transformative. Adri challenges her students to step outside of their comfort zones, guiding them with a soft yet powerful approach that allows growth to happen naturally. Allyson Osiris is a world-class performer and Ladies Styling specialist at Abanico Performance Academy. Originally from Mexico, she brings a rich cultural influence, refined technique, and powerful stage presence into every class she teaches.
Leading Salsa ON2 Level 2 Ladies Styling for intermediate to advanced dancers, Allyson is known for her precision, elegance, and artistic expression. She has mastered the art of ladies styling, guiding dancers to elevate their movement, confidence, and individuality.
Her teaching is both challenging and inspiring—pushing students to refine their technique while helping them discover their unique style. Allyson’s classes are designed to transform the way you move, empowering you to step onto the dance floor with confidence and presence.

CeCe Magyar is the Salsa ON2 Level 1 Ladies Styling instructor at Abanico Performance Academy, known for her vibrant energy and engaging teaching style. With an electric spirit and passion for movement, CeCe creates a fun and welcoming environment where dancers can explore and grow with confidence.
Specializing in foundational ladies styling, CeCe focuses on helping students develop body movement, coordination, and elegant turns. Her expertise in spins and technique allows dancers to build control, balance, and fluidity from the very beginning.
Her choreography is dynamic and enjoyable, making every class feel exciting and empowering. CeCe’s approach is designed specifically for beginners—ensuring that each student feels supported, encouraged, and confident as they learn.

KSENIA CHPAK
Performance Producer
Ksenia Chpak is the Performance Producer at Abanico Performance Academy, playing a vital role in shaping and elevating the academy’s performance vision. As both a skilled dancer and accomplished performer, Ksenia brings creativity, precision, and passion into every production she leads.
She is responsible for directing and producing performances featuring Abanico’s top talent, ensuring each piece reflects the highest level of artistry, coordination, and impact. Her work behind the scenes brings performances to life, while her presence as a performer adds depth and authenticity to the stage.
When she’s not producing and choreographing, Ksenia is actively training and preparing for her own performances—continuously refining her craft and pushing her artistic boundaries.
Known for her electric energy and genuine spirit, Ksenia is a true ambassador of the Abanico community. Her dedication, creativity, and heart make her an essential part of the team and a driving force behind Abanico’s performance excellence.
PETER CHABA
CFO
Peter Chaba is the Chief Financial Officer of Abanico Performance Academy and a foundational force behind the organization’s growth and success. Alongside his wife Karen, Peter has helped build Abanico from the ground up—transforming a vision into a thriving and connected community.
With a hands-on approach and entrepreneurial mindset, Peter plays a key role in shaping the structure and sustainability of the academy. His leadership supports the continued expansion of the Abanico brand while maintaining the strong values that define its culture.
Together, Peter and Karen have created more than a business—they have built a family. Through meaningful connections and a shared vision, they continue to foster an environment where relationships grow, artists thrive, and the community remains at the heart of everything they do.
